You will play a vital role in supporting strategic leadership, educational outcomes, and the effective use of resources, helping every pupil to succeed.

The Role of Trustees

Trustees provide strategic oversight and corporate governance for the Trust.

Key responsibilities include:

• Setting the Trust’s vision, values, and strategic direction
• Holding leaders to account for educational performance and quality of education
• Ensuring financial probity and sustainability
• Overseeing compliance, safeguarding, and risk management

Trustees operate at a Trust-wide level, working closely with the CEO and leadership team.

 

The Role of Local School Committee Members

As members of the Heath Academy Trust, the governance of our schools exists at a Trust level. However, the Trustees have established Local School Committees (LSC) to act as the ‘local voice’ of each school, ensuring that the school’s vision, values and performance remain strong and aligned with community needs and to carry out some of its school level responsibilities. The Local School Committee sits under the Chair of the Board of Trustees and the Headteacher of their school.

Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring the quality of education, performance, behaviour, safeguarding, SEND and health and safety
• Understanding the needs of the local school community
• Providing support and constructive challenge to school leaders
• Acting as a link between the school and the Trust Board
• For our Church Schools - upholding the religious character of the school

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds who are committed to improving education. No prior experience is necessary but we are particularly interested in individuals with knowledge of:

• Education
• Finance, audit, or risk
• HR / organisational development
• Safeguarding 
• Health and Safety
• Legal or governance

Most importantly, we are looking for people who share our values and are willing to work collaboratively and strategically.

All roles are voluntary, but the impact you make is invaluable.

Time Commitment

• Trustees: Typically 6 meetings per year plus preparation time
• LSC Members: Typically 3 meetings per year plus school visits
