At the Heath Academy Trust, we are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils. Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is an important part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities, and we recognise that safeguarding against extremist ideology is essential to keeping our community safe.

We follow the statutory guidance set out in the Counter‑Terrorism and Security Act 2015, which places a duty on schools to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.” This is known as the Prevent Duty.

Our Approach

• We promote a strong culture of respect, tolerance, and inclusion, ensuring pupils develop the critical thinking skills needed to challenge extremist views.
• Staff are trained to identify signs of radicalisation and know how to respond to concerns swiftly and appropriately.
• We work closely with parents, carers, local safeguarding partners, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to pupil safety.
• Our curriculum, including PSHE, supports pupils in understanding risks, making safe choices, and valuing diversity.
• We maintain robust safeguarding procedures, including safer recruitment, online safety measures, and clear reporting pathways for concerns.

Raising Concerns

If any member of our school community has concerns about a pupil being at risk of radicalisation, they should contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately. Concerns will always be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

Our Prevent Duty work is embedded within our overall safeguarding framework, ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of our pupils remains at the heart of everything we do.
